Geoffrey Kusel is the new Air Traffic Control Manager and if you have questions about why the controllers take the actions they do, this is your opportunity to learn why. Conversely, this is your opportunity to let the controllers know what you and your aircraft are capable of when flying in the pattern. The controllers must balance all this in time critical situations. Tucson airport management will be available to discuss future plans for the airport and general operations philosophy. You can expect the event to last about 1.5 hours, depending on questions. This Pilot/Controller Forum is an opportunity to introduce the Air Traffic Manager and discuss your concerns.
Ryan Airfield (RYN) is about 14 road miles southwest of Tucson at the intersection West Valencia Road. The conference room is next to the airport restaurant in the terminal building.
If flying in, for short-term aircraft parking the Restaurant Ramp allows for 24-hour street side access. The Tower Ramp is reserved for long-term parking only.
"Prior to attending a safety seminar, please review and abide by current CDC, State, and Local health guidelines."
We wish to thank ATM Kusel and the Tucson Airport Authority for the use of their meeting facility. The FAA Safety Team promotes and encourages pilots to view the FAA's Runway Safety Action Team's "From the Flight Deck" video series. In addition, the Arizona Aviation Safety Advisory Group has produced similar videos for Marana (AVQ) and Sedona (SEZ) which may be viewed on YouTube, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTBHrJnpGeo and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWrb-xCK1rA. Before visiting any of these airports for the first time or the hundreth time, it is better to "know before you go."
