Page Update:

Our first weekend getaway of 2023 to Page, AZ sold out quickly.  We have 19 people scheduled to enjoy a half-day Colorado River rafting trip and an Antelope Canyon tour during the Friday 4/21 - Sunday 4/23 weekend.

Willcox:

Our second getaway to Willcox is coming up fast, scheduled for Friday 5/26 - Monday 5/29 (Memorial Day weekend).  We have a few spots still open, so I am extending the deadline until April 15.

My wife Jackie and I have been visiting this area of Arizona every year since we moved here almost 7 years ago, staying at 1 of the 3 hospitality inns featured in this getaway (Dos Cabezas Retreat Bed & Breakfast).  Southeast Arizona is a very uncrowded, laid back corner of the state, yet magnificently beautiful with lots of historical ambience and modern amenities.  A very under-rated area in my opinion!

I am in the process of finalizing the details (still working on adding a few things), but here’s a preliminary itinerary:

Friday 5/26

  • Everyone arrives at Cochise County Airport (P33) late morning. Nice runway!  But there’s not much else there, so we won’t have trouble finding each other.
  • Wine tasting and lunch in Willcox.
  • Arrive at local hospitality inn. The group will stay at 3 different properties (Dos Cabezas Retreat Bed & Breakfast, The Huts at Rhumb Line Vineyard and Lavender Farm, Yaqui Hideout Lavender Farm).  Each of these venues have years of experience welcoming visitors to beautiful Southeast Arizona.  There is plenty of room to explore the spacious grounds and enjoy the natural settings, dark skies, and dramatic Arizona sunsets.
  • Dinner at local restaurant.
  • Overnight at local hospitality inn.

Saturday 5/27

  • Continental breakfast at your hospitality inn.
  • Short hike at Fort Bowie or Cochise Stronghold and/or visit Amerind Museum.
  • More wine tasting at local vineyards, with probable stop for lunch along the way.
  • Dinner at local restaurant.
  • Overnight at local hospitality inn.

Sunday 5/28

  • Continental breakfast at your hospitality inn.
  • Longer hike in Chiricahua National Monument, very famous for its hoodoos! This is what originally drew Jackie and I to this area.  If you’ve been there, you know what I mean.  If you haven’t, get ready for scenery the likes of which you likely haven’t seen.
  • Wine tasting dinner at one of the local hospitality inns or a local vineyard. This will be a special event hosted by either one of the hospitality inns or a local winery.
  • Overnight at local hospitality inn.

Monday 5/29

  • Continental breakfast at your hospitality inn.
  • Back to Cochise County Airport, leave for home.

In addition to above, I am working on adding a visit to Inde Motorsports, which is located about 10 miles west of the Cochise County airport.  I understand there was a day trip there a few years back that allowed participants to land on the track’s straightaway.  That won’t be necessary this time around (since it is a short drive).  It also may not be possible since I understand there is a race that weekend.  We nonetheless might be able to visit this impressive facility and see some racing during our weekend in Willcox!

I’m estimating the cost for the trip to be $700 for singles (you get your own room) and $900 for doubles (2 of you share a room).  This includes the wine tastings, lodging, breakfasts, Friday lunch, and Sunday night wine tasting dinner.  The cost does not include Saturday/Sunday lunches or Friday/Saturday dinners.

If interested, I will take a deposit to hold your spot and pay the costs required up front.  $325 deposit for singles and $375 deposit for doubles holds your spot.  Reservation deadline is Saturday 4/15.

Reservation deadline is Saturday 4/15
